Restaurant Consultant FAQs

We are passionate about your success in the hospitality industry at DMD and would love to connect with you to hear about your business goals. Feel free to call us with any questions about how we can help your business grow, or browse the FAQs below for more information.

What does a restaurant consultant do?

Restaurant consultants are business advisors that specialize in the hospitality industry. A good restaurant consultant can help you with everything from writing a restaurant business plan to revising or creating effective restaurant operations. You can hire a food service consultant to evaluate the restaurant as a whole and offer general guidance or for a specific task, such as developing a new beverage menu. You can find details on the services we offer here.

Why should I hire a restaurant consultant?

Restaurant owners and managers of all experience levels can benefit from restaurant consulting services. Restaurant consultants offer a fresh perspective on your restaurant concept and business practices. They can often identify previously overlooked problems and use their expertise to provide practical and creative solutions.

At DMD, we focus on providing start-ups and struggling restaurants with the resources to succeed, but even a successful restaurant can benefit from occasional outside guidance. We want to help you build a solid foundation so that your business can continue to grow year after year.

How do I pick the best food service consultant?

When choosing a restaurant consultant, you’ll want to evaluate their experience and personality. Ask questions about their restaurant experience in general and their experience in dealing with problems like yours. For example, if you need help developing a bar menu, you may not want to hire someone who’s only consulted on restaurant operations.

You’ll also want to keep in mind that you will work closely with your consultant, potentially over a long period. Therefore, you must build mutual trust and respect to feel confident implementing their guidance. If your personalities aren’t clicking within a meeting or two, it may be time to move on.

What does the restaurant consulting process look like?

The restaurant consulting process varies from project to project, depending on your business goals and the services you are looking for. At DMD, we always start with a free phone consultation where we can discuss your needs and what resources might be helpful for you. After the initial consultation, we will put together a proposal with our suggestions and timeline. If you accept the proposal, it’s time to get to work.

What is your experience in the hospitality industry?

DMD Founder Daniel Dreyfuss has been in the restaurant industry for over 35 years, in every position from general manager to director of operations. He currently owns three restaurants and only hires consultants that are restaurant owners or have worked as owner-operators within the last ten years. You can learn more about our experience here.

Where are you located, and what areas do you serve?

DMD was founded in Colorado Springs, where Daniel lives and operates his restaurants, but we offer restaurant consulting services in the U.S., from New York to L.A. We can provide some services remotely, or we’ll travel to you for things like an operational analysis.

Do you have a minimum project size for restaurants that want to hire you?

No, we want to help you regardless of restaurant size or project scope. The initial consultation will discuss the resources and services most beneficial for your business.

If I request a consultation, is there any obligation on my part?

No, we want to ensure that DMD Restaurant Consultants is the right fit for you. If you decide not to work with us after completing a consultation, we still wish you the best in your business ventures and hope to hear from you again if we can ever be of service.
